Neovest lets you automatically create positions and orders in a Basket window by letting you import files that contain positions and orders you have created outside of Neovest.
Files that you may load into a Neovest Basket window may be created in programs such as Microsoft ® Excel and Microsoft ® Notepad, which let you save files in a comma-, semicolon-, space-, or tab-delimited format.
In order for a file containing positions or orders to be imported correctly into a Neovest Basket window, the positions or orders in the file and the file itself must be formatted correctly, according to the following specifications:
1. In order for Neovest to recognize the position and order data that you wish to import into a Basket window, the position and order data must fall under one of the
following data categories: Symbol, Order Size, Side, Price Type, Price Offset, Offset Type, Inside Market, Destination, TIF, Order Type, and Account. The position and order data that Neovest accepts matches the display fields that are displayed in the "Blotter" section in a Basket window. For definitions of the display fields that are displayed in the "Blotter" section, which will also help you to understand the type of position and order data that you may import into a Basket window, refer to the "Blotter Descriptions" section in the "Basket" chapter of Neovest's Help documentation.
2. All position and order data must be separated by a comma, a semicolon, a space, or a tab in a plain text documentor the data must be separated in individual
cells in a spreadsheet and then saved in a comma-delimited, a space-delimited, or a tab-delimited format. The order of the position or order data is not important; however, it is important that you separate the data that you wish to import into columns of the same data. For instance, all symbols should be organized into one column, all order sizes should be organized into a separate column, and so on.
3. Two examples of proper position and order data formatting are as follows:
4. Symbol files that do not meet the above criteria will not be processed.
The following instructions explain how you may load a properly formatted file containing position data, order data, or symbols into the "Blotter" section in a Neovest Basket window:
Click Load File in the "Blotter" section in an open Basket window.
Once the "Import" box appears, click on the "Look In" down arrow to select the location of the file that you wish to load.
Note: If you are unable to locate the file that you wish to load, you may need to click on the "Files of Type" down arrow and select "All Files." The "Files of Type" drop-down menu lets you control which files are displayed in the "Import" box. Selections in the "Files of Type" drop-down menu range from letting you display "All Files (*.*)" to certain "Text" files with various extensions.
Once you click on the file that you wish to load, click Import.
Once the "Import Table" box appears, you may configure the position data, order data, or symbols that you wish to load into a Neovest Basket window.
The following table provides descriptions of the features in the "Import Table" box that let you configure the position data, order data, or symbols that you wish to load into a Neovest Basket window:
Feature: | Description: |
Delimiters | Lets you specify the delimiter that you have chosen for the position data, order data, or symbols that you wish to load into a Basket window. For instance, if you have saved the data you wish to load into a Basket window in a tab-delimited format in a spreadsheet program, then you would check "Tab" in this field. If you have saved the data in a comma-, semicolon-, or space-delimited format, then you may check the selection in this field that is appropriate for your chosen delimiter. If your saved file containing position data, order data, or symbols includes multiple delimiters in a row without any data in between the consecutive delimiters, then you may select "Treat Consecutive Delimiters As One" and Neovest will recognize only one delimiter instead of the multiple delimiters that appear in consecutive order. If, however, you have intentionally left certain position data, order data, or symbol fields blank for mapping purposes and, therefore, you have purposely created one or more rows of consecutive delimiters without any data in between the consecutive delimiters, then you would not want to select "Treat Consecutive Delimiters As One." Once you select a delimiter for the position data, order data, or symbols that you wish to load into a Basket window, Neovest will separate the data or symbols into columns in the "Preview" field in the "Import Table" box. Once the data or symbols are separated into columns, you may specify a category header for each column by clicking on the down arrow above each column. For instance, you may select "Symbol" for the column that is made up of symbols, "Order Size" for the column that is made up of order sizes, and so on. |
Starting Row | Lets you select the starting row for the position data, order data, or symbols that you wish to load into a Basket window. For instance, if the file you wish to load has several lines of position data, order data, or symbols and you wish to ignore the first two rows of data in the file, then you may click on the "Start on Row" drop-down menu and select "3" to ignore the first two rows. |
Templates | Lets you select, save, and delete templates that you have created in the "Preview" field in the "Import Table" box. A "Template" is referred to in Neovest as the rows of category headers that you have specified for the columns of position data, order data, or symbols that you wish to load into a Basket window. For instance, once you have chosen a delimiter for the position data, order data, or symbols that you wish to load into a Basket window and Neovest has separated the data or symbols into columns in the "Preview" field in the "Import Table" box—you must specify a category header for each column (i.e., "Symbol" for the column that is made up of symbols, "Order Size" for the column that is made up of order sizes, and so on). If you have multiple files that you wish to import into a Basket window and the position data, order data, or symbols are in the same order in each file—then you may save the template that you have created for the first file to use in consecutive files that you wish to load into a Basket window. |
Preview | Lets you preview the position data, order data, or symbols that you wish to load into a Basket window. Once you select a delimiter for the position data, order data, or symbols, Neovest will separate the data or symbols into columns in the "Preview" field in the "Import Table" box. Once the data or symbols are separated into columns, you may specify a category header for each column by clicking on the down arrows above each column. For instance, you may select "Symbol" for the column that is made up of symbols, "Order Size" for the column that is made up of order sizes, and so on. |
Once you have configured the position data, order data, or symbols that you wish to load into a Neovest Basket window, click OK.
